Solar Powered Lights - Disadvantages Of Using Solar Power?

Many aspects of life or products that is available for sale has both positive and negative points to hinder or encourage their use. This is true for Solar Powered Lights. They have many positives as well as a few deterrent negatives that exist. In this article, let us look at the negatives and figure if the negatives are insignificant enough to warrant use of Solar Powered Lights.

There is a lot of talk about improving the environment by lowering pollution and cleaning up the air and land we live in and use to breathe.  In a very general non specific sense one could say the advantages of using Solar Powered Lights out way the disadvantages. This is true if you look at the numbers only. However, although there are only a few disadvantages of using Solar Powered Lights, some may say the disadvantages that do exist, are by far much worse than the advantages.

The first of the disadvantages of using Solar Powered Lights and perhaps the worse of the two is that Solar Powered Lights require cells, panels, or other storage mechanisms to store the energy created by the sun. These panels or cells are very, very expensive making them inaccessible to some people making use of Solar Power not a choice for some people.

The next disadvantage also ties into the first. The solar power can not be produced or created at night when the sun is not visible. Therefore if you are solely using solar power, again you must have the very expensive storage facility to store the solar energy and to convert the energy to power after dark.

The elements that are required to properly use the solar energy can be damaged by weather or other different aspects of wear and tear. Once you install them, they are a permanent part of the house. They can not be taken with you once you move. It is not possible to take them with you without seriously costing an abundance of money. You would literally have to replace your whole roof and then have a professional installer take the solar panels off and move them to the new location and have them installed at the new location as well. Therefore, it is not cost effective to move them if you relocate.

In conclusion, it will be a matter of personal opinion if the costs and disadvantages of using Solar Powered Lights are worth the benefits to you. Way the pros and cons and make a decision once you have all the information.
